Mercury Turns Retrograde
Mercury Turns Retrograde - Reviewing Remnants
"And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tuneThen the piper will lead us to reason"
We begin to really take a hard look this week at how to blend elements of the old — the past — into an entirely new framework. Mercury turns retrograde in Aquarius this week without quite becoming stuck in the strict grasp of a conjunction with Saturn. Mercury encourages us to resourcefully gather insight and clues from what remains of established structures that we can incorporate into a brand new structure. We are slowly beginning to emerge from a period where old structures have been deconstructed in order to clear the decks for new, more appropriate structures. Mercury's review process will encourage us to consider 'lofty' new ideas and brings a desire to experiment. Under this week's 1st Quarter Moon, we find ourselves ready to test our new ideas and new ways of relating. At times, this may be simple 'trial and error' but there are extraordinary intellectual abilities at work as well. A mid-week Mars-Neptune square may bring disappointment or disillusionment if our experiments and tests don't immediately bring the results that we expect. We will need to remember that Mercury will move back into Capricorn before the end of January, paring away our lofty goals in favor of practicality. Mercury will make a direct station early next month in a conjunction with Pluto — near the point where Venus stationed retrograde. This puts a great deal of emphasis on Pluto's transformational influence both on our thinking and on how we relate to others. Pluto's involvement points to both endings as well as new beginnings — 'Death and Regeneration'. Mercury will finally arrive at a conjunction with Saturn on March 2nd which will provide us with an opportunity to 'document' our findings — the data that we have gathered over the course of the retrograde Mercury period. Ultimately, we are looking for something tangible that 'works'. Vesta arrives in Capricorn early this week, demanding discipline in our investigations and experimentation and questioning any lofty idealism that will not serve to create a stable foundation for future progress. Pluto's involvement encourages us to let go of what is not working but we must complete the process of investigation and experimentation in order to extricate those elements from our past that are still valid and valuable to our future. Of course, Venus continues her retrograde process as well, reminding us that the new framework and structures that we are seeking to establish must incorporate new ways of relating and valuing others. We cannot build a new society without understanding how we interact and relate to each other within this new society. There is hope and optimism this week as we build towards the Cancer Full Moon (6:48 PM PST 27° Cancer/Capricorn) coming up on Monday of next week. But the Full Moon will oppose Pluto, bringing more intense changes and challenges that will require detachment and compassion in order to continue to explore the opportunities for building for the future.
The 1st Quarter Moon on Sunday is activating. We're feeling reading to try out some of our new ideas. We begin to experiment and test the meaningfulness of those ideas. Vesta arrives in Capricorn on Monday, demanding that we focus on reality. A Sun-Neptune sextile helps us to blend determination with intuitive inspiration. Mars squares Neptune on Tuesday. We are challenged to set aside delusion and unrealistic idealism. Our energy is dissipated on Wednesday. We may finally be recognizing the steep challenges that lay before us. The hope and optimism that we feel on Thursday may be easily squandered if we aren't willing to keep our feet firmly planted on the ground. Friday may feel a bit like a 'free for all' as Mercury stations to turn retrograde. If we are able to maintain some detachment, we will find important new clues to pursue. The Moon's arrival in Cancer on Saturday signals the building intensity of next Monday's Cancer Full Moon. We find some sense of adventurousness as we begin to seek out new options for our growth and development.
