About Pluto's Child

KevinThis site is an ongoing experiment for me. I started working on it with Pluto going into Capricorn and trining my Virgo Sun/Pluto.  It occurred to me during the 2008 presidential campaign and election of Barack Obama (also born with Pluto in Virgo) that Pluto going into Capricorn signifies (among other things) a changing of the guard from the Pluto in Leo generation (those born from approximately 1939 to 1957 - like both Bill and Hillary Clinton, for example) to the Pluto in Virgo Generation ( approximately  1956 to 1972). Since my Pluto's early in Virgo and also rising and conjunct my Sun, I was thinking this would be good time to explore finding my own voice.

It also represents a changing of the guard for me in my personal life.

Most of my work in Astrology has been in support of my mother's work. Like a dutiful apprentice (or a good Virgo son), I worked to enable her to use the new "information superhighway" to sell her books and distribute her daily forecast.  Our website (EstherAndSon.com) was one of the very first astrological sites on the internet in 1994.  We did reports and consultations via phone and e-mail and mom spent a good deal of time connecting with other astrologers via an e-mail list.  That was before blogs and Facebook and Twitter and all the rest that has come since.

As Pluto teaches over and over, things change.  Mom passed away in 2006 after struggling with arthritis and dementia. I spent some time trying to keep her forecast going after she was no longer able to keep writing.  But between taking on the tasks of being her primary caregiver and moving into a new house, it didn't seem to make sense to spend the time to keep it going.  So I let it go.  That is one of the lessons Pluto teaches.

For the time being at least, I'm not intending to offer consultations or open any kind of individual astrological practice. I'm experimenting and exploring and looking, I guess, to find and develop my own voice. I grew up with astrology rather than coming to it as an adult and I hope to use that perspective to inform what I do and write on Pluto's Child. I intend to explore a variety of topics, from world political and social events and trends, to my own personal day to day observations.

Astrology was developed and continues to evolve based on observation within a complex network of micro and macro historical and cultural environments. In my own life, I have had many opportunities to observe for myself what works and what doesn't work when it comes to using astrology.  It seems to me that others should be able to have the same opportunity.  Just as one's physical health is a complex combination of environmental and genetic influences together with the ongoing process of learning 'what works' and what to avoid, using astrology in my own life is based on many years of observing what happens under a variety of different astrological influences.

For this site, I put together an assortment of tools that are essentially the tools I make use of every day to look at the numerological and astrological stuff going on. I don't use these tools to make my decisions - I use them to inform my decisions.  I offer them here to allow others to use them (or not) as they see fit.  I'll be happy to offer any clarification or input that I can, via comments, but what I'm really hoping is that I can find a way to help others make use of Astrology on their own.

On the navigation bar above there are several free reports:

ASTROLOGY

  • Horoscope Reports:

This is will calculate your chart based on your birthday and prepare a report giving you the degree influences taken from the book Degrees of the Zodiac by Esther V. Leinbach.  Degree influences offer a very interesting addition to chart interpretation. These help to understand how the basic sign and house placement of the planets are expressed.

NUMEROLOGY

  • Numerology Cycle:

Enter a date to see the numerological influence on that day.
Hint:If you enter the date of your last birthday, you can see the numerological cycle of the year you are on until your next birthday. Or check out an important or significant day in your life.

  • Name Numbers:

This is pretty self explanatory Just enter your first, middle and last name.  You can also use this tool to enter things like your street name or business name - essentially any word you want to find the numerology for.  This no requirement for any name field but any entry other than a letter will only result in a zero value so entering a number will not be included in the total.

  • Name & Birthday Numbers:

This is like the Name Numerology tool but includes a date tool to include your birthday too. The interpretation result for the date here is different than the interpretation in the Number Cycle tool.

Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and resources, Kevin. The information about my Capricorn (sun): Gemini (Jupiter), Leo (Saturn) Yod here on your site, spoke so much to my 41 years. I also have come to learn that in addition to my 8th house Sun and 8th house Venus, I’ve got two T squares and a Grand trine. What a ride! This latest information on my specific yod is exactly what I needed to continue my journey. Many, many thanks!

    • Thank you, MeChelle!

I'm thinking about your 8th house Sun. Assuming that puts your Jupiter in the 1st House and Saturn in the 3rd House, you might also find some interesting tidbits by looking at the Scorpio(8th)/Aries(1st)-Gemini(3rd) Yod - just a thought.

Dear Mr. Leinbach..I send gratitude to/for you. I discovered a pattern in my chart called a Yod. As I am new to astrology; your website is the shiny gem I've dreamed about and have searched for. You just made this Sag Sun, Leo Moon, Leo Asc. The happiest 41 year old gal ever. Thank you! ~Eyes to the sky; Heart towards the stars.

I decided to google my favorite astrology teacher, Esther V. Leinbach. I took astrology lessons from her in Eugene, LCCC, way back in the 70s when I moved to Oregon and I truly think that is when I really first enjoyed learning and studying anything! She was a great teacher and I still have many of her books and my class notes, and met many interesting people through her. So glad to see you are carrying on her work.

    Hi Kevin.

I have a question about your reports.
You ask for the first, middle and last name but I have 6 names, and not just 3.
Should I fill only 3 names or how should I do this?

    Thanks

    • Kevin

      Hi Rui,

That's a good question! You can put more than one name into any of the "First", "Middle", and "Last" fields and group them as you think might be appropriate, for example, "Mary Elizabeth" might be considered a first name even though it is two distinct names. I think I would also look at distinctions between given names and how you are referred to. "Beth", "Liz", or ""Mary" would be commonly used names for a person originally name "Mary Elizabeth".

Initially, I suggest you run through the names individually, that is, run the first 3 names, then the last 3 so you can see what each name digits to. Then group them appropriately, so if your first name is actually one name, put that into the "First Name" field, group middle names together, then put your surname, given name or married name in the "Last Name" field.

I hope that helps - and thanks for the question!

Kevin, I had not checked in for some time here and am thrilled about the new release of the book. I will have to get one of course...Again, how right on this site is and so grateful for the ability to have horoscope chart, numerology and name numbers all so easy to access in one spot!
Hope you continue and will have to make sure I keep checking in.

    • Kevin

      Thanks again, Tamsen!

I'm currently working on the next book, "Planets & Asteroids" as well as the Numerology App for Android and have not spent as much time as I would like to refine and streamline the website - not to mention increasing the frequency my posts. But I've been pleased that more and more people are using the various tools that are available here.

  • Thanks for this website. I found the chart-generating program and the name numerology features very useful. Though I have seen some other sites/software which give interpretations for planets/luminaries on specific degrees, so far, from the charts I've run, yours gives the best assessment of peoples' characters/thought processes I've seen, though AstroWin is very spot-on too. A complete chart assessment would have your attention to degrees as well as the other factors assessed by other astrology software. Thanks for sharing your knowledge in this tangibly useful way.

Hey Tamsen, Thanks for saying hi and for your kind words about mom! I agree with you about mom's Numerology Book. I'm working on it now and hope to have it re-released before the end of the year (Print and e-book) and I've been amazed all over again as I work my way through it. I haven't been posting a whole lot new blog entries but I'm anticipating becoming more "talkative" in the New Year.

Hello Kevin, I was thrilled to find this site is up and running in 2012. I have met your mother and was very pleased to have done so. I think her numerology book is the best there is. I have used it as a guide on and off throughout the years. Are you also in Eugene now? I wish I had been able to visit Esther again before she left. She was a very special person! I hope to keep following this blog! February 7,1958!

    Hi Kelli!

I've enabled registration again - for some reason it was disabled.

    Thanks!

Myka recommended your site to me and so I am checking it out for the first time & love it! I tried to log on but am not registered and so I could not see where to register. I would appreciate knowing how the log on process works.
    Thanks,
    K
