Mercury Square Neptune - Blind Spots

"A crisis is made by men, who enter into the crisis with their own prejudices, propensities, and predispositions. A crisis is the sum of intuition and blind spots, a blend of facts noted and facts ignored."

— Michael Crichton, The Andromeda Strain

We begin to glimpse an entirely new landscape this week — intellectually inspirational but unfamiliar. The retrograde Mercury square Neptune has produced a sense that we are suddenly in a different place. This week's atmosphere is unsteady and subject to quick changes. A fog bank of sorts has descended and we may be prone to see only what we want to see in that fog. We are suddenly awash in new perspectives, new ideas, and new influences that seem to develop out of this new environment. Our pressing challenge is to stay in touch with the inspiration that we have been fostering since the May 11th Taurus New Moon (11:59 AM PDT 21° Taurus) even though we may feel as if we are suddenly on an entirely different track and find ourselves in danger of losing our individual vision. We may feel that our individual sense of direction is somehow being dissolved — merged into a larger, unifying vision or sense of purpose. Faith is required in order to understand that we are not really losing ourselves by allowing the insights of others to influence and inform our expanding perspective. In fact, it is only our perception that has changed. We are embarking on a process of review but Mercury's square to Neptune injects an inspirational and transcendent quality to that review process. Boundaries may seem to slip. Venus arrives in Cancer on Wednesday and forms a lovely trine to Jupiter. There is a profound sense of destiny. Ideas seem to be shared more easily and we may begin to believe that we have a solid handle on how to navigate this new environment. However, some will begin to look for ways to impose filters on the flow of information. In attempting to exert some control, there is some potential for creating a distorted picture. Setting boundaries or filters does not seem to help us feel safe but rather, seems to expose our blind spots and vulnerabilities. The foggy atmosphere may seem oppressive or deceptively exhilarating. We struggle to understand how to establish boundaries between our own vision or purpose and what we seem to see all around us. Confusion may seem to be everywhere. By the end of the week, a Mars-Pluto opposition, set off by a square from the Aries Moon, suddenly exposes deep concern over the expression of our individual perspective. There is an emotional struggle to distinguish ourselves in some way. Although this may be a significant challenge, this is an important element in the overall process of clarifying our vision and arriving at a place where we can begin to show tangible results. The retrograding Saturn is heading back into the second of three squares to Uranus (June 14th), and the need to stabilize and clarify our unique vision is still the overriding challenge of the current period despite the confusion we may experience this week.

We may experience a sense of wonder and excitement on Sunday and have the sense that the landscape has changed dramatically. Temptations abound. Monday eases the sense of unfamiliarity a bit and the Sun's conjunction with the North Node increases our courage and excitement at the prospect of exploring new horizons. Tuesday's challenge is to look for ways to connect the dots and look for the 'thread' or through-line of our experience. Otherwise, the seemingly new environment may begin to seem especially disorienting. Venus arrives in Cancer on Wednesday, forming a lovely trine to Jupiter in Pisces. An expansive sense of inspiration and creativity gives us the sense that we may actually have a handle on the new environment. However, we should try to remember to stay in touch with our unique, personal sense of direction. There is a rather aggressive attempt to try to establish some control on Thursday. However, we may only be exposing our own blind spots by trying to control the flow of information. There is some rebelliousness emerging on Friday as we work on setting up some boundaries in order to distinguish ourselves from the crowd. The intensity of the rebelliousness increases on Saturday under the Mars-Pluto opposition, which is set off by the Aries Moon. We look for ways to set ourselves apart from others — like minded or not.
