Capricorn New Moon
Capricorn New Moon - New Doctrines
"What's the use you learning to do right when it's troublesome to do right and ain't no trouble to do wrong, and the wages is just the same?"
— Mark Twain
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
We move through a wilderness of uncertainty this week following the change of seasons and a dampening of optimism. Mars arrives home in fiery, independent Aries but seems willing to bide time before making any rash moves. Mercury moves from high-minded and philosophical Sagittarius into steady, conservative Capricorn. Although Jupiter still has plenty of time left to contemplate in Sagittarius, the mood has shifted and we realize that we need to put out significant effort if our expansive plans have any chance to succeed. However, as the Moon continues to wane in light this week, we may find more satisfaction taking refuge in self-righteousness, rather than putting out the effort to try and make sense of what others are saying. Communication seems incomplete — at best. Power struggles and underhanded maneuvers are tempting but completely unproductive and there are unexpected landmines of sensitivity which are likely to keep us feeling disconnected. Self-control and patience are this week's 'coin of the realm' and begin to pay off by Thursday. Once we reach the Capricorn New Moon, ruled by Saturn, on Saturday (5:28 PM PST 15° Capricorn), many will begin to recognize the need to roll up sleeves and get to work. Saturn's demands can seem harsh to some, though, and there may be some who prefer to rebel or simply collapse under the pressure. Nonetheless, Saturn does offer steady rewards to those who settle down and get to work.
Nervous tension is disruptive on Sunday and we require significant self-control in order to maintain balance. The year ends on Monday with a surprising desire to pull back, even though Mars arrives in fiery Aries and we feel our energy beginning to build. There is a strong feeling of empowerment and confidence ushered in with the New Year on Tuesday. However, we may also glimpse some self-righteousness under a veneer of charming amiability. Wednesday's Sagittarius Moon may only increase the tendency towards self-righteousness. But there are also surprising sensitivities that keep communication garbled. By Thursday, we begin to see self-control and patience pay off. If we have been too focused on approval from others, we'll miss the opportunities for progress. The Moon and Mercury both arrive in Capricorn on Friday and, rather than bringing constriction, there is a helpful grounded feeling that opens the door to productive communication. The Capricorn New Moon on Saturday afternoon suggests a somewhat demanding ultimatum that we bear down and get to work. Some may recognize opportunities and get to work, while others choose to rebel or simply collapse under the pressure.
