Cancer Full Moon
Cancer Full Moon - Freedom Within Our Tribe
"They were more free, but they were more alone."
— Erich Fromm
Escape from Freedom
This week starts off with another 'Cusp' Full Moon on Sunday (9:15 PM PST 0° Leo/Aquarius) which straddles the Cancer/Leo cusp. We are torn between feeling a need to belong to a 'Tribe' for security and the need to break free in order to express ourselves as unique, creative individuals. Under the Cancer Full Moon, the Sun is also changing signs, moving from rule-abiding Capricorn to free-thinking Aquarius. And so, the stage is set. We are likely to feel a strong desire for a secure foundation within a framework of established rules to follow. However, the shift urged by the Full Moon is to free ourselves from constraints and chart a new and unique course. With enough wisdom and patience, we will find a way to combine and synthesize these competing urges, demands and desires. In fact, there is an entirely New Framework of rules being established but we can't simply take them on faith and follow the leader, so to speak. We are faced with the need to Understand on a deep and powerful level. The Sun's move into Aquarius demands that we Know why the rules are what they are, not simply take the rules (of our culture, our family and our tribe) on Faith. Nonetheless, the desire to belong is also very strong and so we are likely to feel significant limitations as we strive for better, deeper understanding of how to be ourselves within this New Structural Framework that is developing all around us. The more that we defer and follow the rules laid down by others, without fully understanding for ourselves, the shakier our foundation becomes. However, we must also avoid isolating ourselves from others in an effort to maintain our own sovereign, unique individuality.
Sunday evening's Cancer Full Moon sets the tone for the entire week. We realize that any search for real answers is, in fact, a never ending journey. Intuition is extremely important on Monday. Mars and Saturn square from their home signs, presenting us with the classic clash between freedom and responsibility. Wild optimism takes over on Tuesday and it seems as though the 'brakes are off' on our drive for creative independence. However, by Wednesday we begin to see that the 'devil is in the details' under the Virgo Moon. We search for evidence and begin to recognize that we need others in order to establish a firm footing. The Moon is VOC for most of the day on Thursday and details become quite unreliable. Extra physical activity and exercise might help us to avoid making decisions before fully understanding all of the facts. We are faced with the consequences of excessive optimism on Friday. We need to stay honest and avoid seeking to gloss over uncomfortable truths. We have the best chance of combining and synthesizing this week's competing directives on Saturday, helped along with intuitive inner guidance. But we need to remember that we need the input of others to help us true up our internal guidance systems.
