Fall Equinox

Fall Equinox - Balanced Perspectives

"Character is Destiny"

— Heraclitus

The nature of the retrograding Mars as a Spiritual Warrior begins to reveal itself this week and we begin to learn how to modulate our efforts. The focus is on allowing the future to reveal itself, rather than spending enormous effort trying to create the future we desire. Last Thursday's New Moon (4:00 AM PDT 25° Virgo), in a tight trine to Saturn, laid down a set of rules and restrictions. Now, we must work within those rules in order to make any progress at all. There are many times this week when we'll do much better to take the line of least resistance, avoiding any inclination to push too hard or stand too far apart from others. In this atmosphere, determination may only get in our way, keeping us from recognizing the need for compromise and cooperation. The Sun's shift into Libra (the Fall Equinox) on Tuesday helps us to acknowledge the importance of alternate perspectives. A powerful sense of destiny permeates this atmosphere but also creates uncertainty — we can't clearly see where the river of time is carrying us. Throughout the week, strong, activating imperatives surface that seem to challenge the need to 'go with the flow'. We are especially sensitive to any appearance that we are slacking by allowing instead of forcing. But we need to remember that our concern over what others think of us is a dangerous distraction from recognizing our responsibility to ourselves. Of note, Mercury enters the shadow of the next retrograde period (October 14 - November 3) on Wednesday in a particularly activated atmosphere. Markers are laid that may only be recognized once we move through and beyond the next retrograde phase.

Mercury's square to Pluto on Sunday shows itself through an attitude of "by any means necessary" and may have us trampling on the toes of others. A sense of destiny is strong. There are a shifting array of opportunities on Monday. The Moon's arrival in Sagittarius offers optimism and an ability to side-step obstacles and distractions. The Sun arrives in Libra (the Fall Equinox) on Tuesday, helping us to see the need for compromise. However, the atmosphere is highly activating and concern over details may have us quite overwhelmed. The early part of the day on Wednesday may see some heightened defensiveness but the Moon's arrival in Capricorn in the afternoon has us feeling a bit more circumspect. Awareness and intuition help us see beyond the 'fray' on Thursday. Tradition and previous planning efforts offer helpful support and stabilization. Balance and a sense of connection begin to grow on Friday. However, our vitality may be dipping. We should be careful not to try to push too far beyond our capacity. We continue to be vulnerable to putting too much pressure on ourselves on Saturday. Concern over the judgements of others will keep us distracted and cause us to lose sight of our responsibility to ourselves.
