Mars-Venus Conjunction
Mars-Venus Conjunction - Sensitivity
"You could write a song about some kind of emotional problem you are having, but it would not be a good song, in my eyes, until it went through a period of sensitivity to a moment of clarity. Without that moment of clarity to contribute to the song, it's just complaining."
— Joni Mitchell
An unusually long-arc Mars-Venus conjunction in Capricorn dominates this week. Sensitivity is extremely high, especially early in the week. We may feel as though we've lost our connection to the past and yet, can't quite make out what our future will look like. We struggle to pull together the remnants of our past in order to gain some sense of stability. The lack of familiar guideposts is disorienting and quickly fosters an overwhelming sense of disconnection. The completion of the Mars-Venus conjunction won't occur until March 5th, after next Wednesday's Pisces New Moon (9:34 AM PST 12° Pisces). Mars generally has the upper hand in pragmatic Capricorn, putting Venus under pressure to be practical, creating sensitivity, and possibly stifling our enthusiasm and inspiration. Isolation may look like the safest strategy at the beginning of the week. However, both Mars and Venus form a sextile to Neptune mid-week, which helps Venus to regain her footing and offer some creativity along with some encouragement to reopen lines of of communication on new terms. The pressure in this week's atmosphere may seem very daunting, which is why we may feel tempted to seek isolation. However, the pressure also creates important opportunities to follow up on last week's breakthroughs and find new routes to building strong, deep connections with those around us. The challenge is to restore or rebuild our connections with others while clearing away underlying emotional blocks that blind us to any understanding of where we have come from — our past. Mars and Venus both conjunct Vesta this week, just after their sextile to Neptune. We will need to be very careful to guard against self-righteousness or martyrdom as we seek to rebuild our connection to those around us. Mercury sextiles Chiron on Wednesday. There is strong potential for debilitating anger and depression — but the stronger the emotions, the greater the chance that we will make important breakthroughs and find greater clarity on the other side. The Mercury-Uranus square on Thursday opens up a wide variety of new ideas but the inspiration and creativity is chaotic and very difficult to manage. Since we are in the waning phase of the lunar cycle, we aren't likely to gain the sort of traction we may think we should have. Nonetheless, this week's developments help us lay the groundwork for realigning ourselves with others in deeper and more authentic ways.
Even though activity increases on Sunday, enthusiasm lags. There are challenging headwinds and a lack of familiar guideposts. Activity slows down on Monday and enthusiasm continues to remain suppressed. Discouragement may lead to isolation. Sensitivity is extreme on Tuesday, leading to debilitation and discouragement. However, anger and depression have the potential to force breakthroughs that help us make stronger and deeper connections. Wednesday's chaotic atmosphere allows us to 'open the doors and air out our emotional confusion. As energy begins to build, we begin to find restored enthusiasm and inspiration. Thursday's Mercury-Uranus square increases the chaos, bringing too many ideas to effectively manage. However, brainstorming can eventually lead to promising developments further down the road. Friday's unexpected challenges may have us questioning the validity of our perspective. We need to be honest in order to sort through the relationship challenges that surface. We recognize the need to pull back and reassess our position on Saturday. It is important to step back from self-righteous indignation and realize that we need others as much as they need us.
