Mars-Mercury Square
Mars-Mercury Square - First Things First
"Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things which matter least."
—Goethe
Mars approaches a square to Uranus this week but it is a square that won't culminate until both Mars and Uranus change signs — Mars into Aquarius; Uranus into Taurus — just after next Tuesday's New Moon (May 15th, 4:47 AM PDT 24° Taurus). As the intense energy builds, Mercury approaches a conjunction to Uranus and there is also a Mars-Mercury Square. Mercury's involvement keeps our minds active to the point of intense overload. The challenge to our ability to focus is unmistakable and we will have to work extremely hard in order to determine how to align ourselves to the simple principle of putting 'first things first'. What is perhaps most important to remember is that all of this week's activity will soon be folded into next week's New Moon and the sign changes of both Mars and Uranus. Patience and humility is necessary in order to diffuse the intense but unfocused stream of energy, ideas and insights. Rather than seek to convince others or forcefully challenge any obstacles or frustrations that we face this week, we will do well to remember that "discretion is the better part of valor" and avoid seeking to demonstrate our conviction, courage and determination by going to battle out of frustration. Despite the strong desire to forge an independent path, the spiritual message in this atmosphere is to "surrender our separative ego-consciousness and flow with the universal current". Our minds will settle a bit and the path will become clearer once Mercury arrives in Taurus (May 13th) and we move beyond the New Moon (May 15th).
A spirit of curious investigation keeps the conversation interesting on Sunday. However, we shouldn't try to convince others or 'wear our heart on our sleeve' — just enjoy the lively conversation. We may try to take a step back and look at the 'bigger picture' on Monday. However, there are probably too many distractions and the potential for misunderstanding is significant. A demand for independence may produce some frustration on Tuesday but moods will soften in the evening. On Wednesday, seeking approval from others is likely to be a dead-end pursuit. Instead, we'll need to believe in ourselves and 'let the world wag'. There's plenty of energy on Thursday and obstacles seem to fall away in a generally abundant atmosphere. However, by Friday, we may begin to see things spiraling out of control. If we feel 'swamped' we may want to consider that "this too, shall pass" and avoid trying to hard to take control. Mercury's involvement in the Mars-Uranus square bring an intense wave of intellectual activity on Saturday. We'll need to remind ourselves to put 'first things first' do what we can to quiet our minds and focus on listening to the 'rhythm of the universe'.
