Cancer New Moon
Cancer New Moon - Personal Acquisition
"The task we must set for ourselves is not to feel secure, but to be able to tolerate insecurity."
— Erich Fromm
As we begin this week, we are coming off the intensely challenging, fixed sign T-Square involving Mars, Uranus, and Saturn in Leo, Taurus, and Aquarius respectively. The intensity wanes along with the Moon's waning light until Friday's Cancer New Moon (6:16 PM PDT 18° Cancer). As the energy seems to dissipate, the independence, rebelliousness, and demanding drive to achieve, shifts. We begin to recognize new questions and concerns. We may begin to understand that there are costs associated with our demand to be free and independent. The drive to innovate, 'break new ground', and 'make great strides', which has been stirred by the fixed T-Square, begins to look more like something that might threaten our safety and security. Mercury makes the last of 3 squares to Neptune and then emerges from the retrograde shadow this week. The effects of these developments bring up vague doubts and uncertainty. The emergence of Mercury from the retrograde shadow sets our intellectual sights on the future. The waning intensity and increased focus on intellect begins to reveal ego attachments and emotional insecurities that could place our achievements on unsteady ground. In order to establish a more secure position, we may begin to look for people who can affirm our position — really the antithesis of the 'rugged independence' that may have seemed so important by the end of last week. Rather than continuing to seek the achievement of our idealistic goals through a determined independence, we may begin to seek approval and validation. Friday's Cancer New Moon centers our focus on the need for security and safety. The danger is that we begin to sacrifice our inner creativity in order to find safety and gain reassurance from others. The determination and demand for freedom that peaked last week must be tempered by the willingness to acknowledge our need for input from others. This week's struggle is seen in the interplay between our understanding of freedom and responsibility. We need to be responsible to ourselves and our unique perspective and vision. But we must also understand that freedom can actually be achieved through our ability to listen, learn, and grow from the messages of the Universe that we receive through the people around us.
Ego vulnerabilities come to a head on Sunday under the Sun's square to Chiron and the Moon's square to Mars. We recognize that independence has a cost. The easy-going atmosphere on Monday may tend to lull us into a false sense of security. However, the last of 3 Mercury-Neptune squares has us on edge so there is still an undercurrent of uncertainty. Tuesday's scattered and chaotic environment keeps things a bit more 'real'. Although our intellect is stirred, we find that emotional uncertainty is slowing us down. Wednesday brings some moodiness as we realize we may not be standing on entirely stable ground. We realize that there is a need to clear away some untenable elements in our goals and beliefs. Even though we may be seeking reassurance on Thursday, the Venus-Uranus square keeps us skeptical of the costs associated with getting approval or validation from others. Friday's Cancer New Moon centers our focus on security but also 'acquisition' in the way we seek to acquire people who will support our position. We need to maintain our integrity and recognize the our ultimate responsibility is to ourselves. The atmosphere is emotionally unsettled on Saturday under a VOC Moon. The challenge is to stay in touch with our individual vision while continuing to stay open to input from others.
