Sagittarius New Moon

Sagittarius New Moon - High Hopes

"Another belief of mine; that everyone else my age is an adult, whereas I am merely in disguise."

— Margaret Atwood

There is a somewhat 'giddy', socially active and exciting environment at the beginning of the week. Tuesday's Sagittarius New Moon (3:31 PM PST 20° Sagittarius) encourages social engagement. Our intellect is stirred but we are easily tempted to get 'out over our skis' and claim to know more than we actually know. Unreal expectations are inflated by the New Moon's square to Neptune. This week's Sagittarius energy encourages optimistic expansion but also has the potential to stir our expectations to unrealistic levels. We are vulnerable to fantasy scenarios. We may believe that we should be taking action on plans that aren't quite ready to implement. Many may believe that they can already take last week's hint of a New Dispensation to the bank. Sagittarian 'Beliefs' can be very strong but are not always reliable — Sagittarian 'Truth' can be subject to revision. The New Moon also makes a tight quincunx to Uranus in Taurus, highlighting a great deal of insecurity as we work to unwind the unpredictable changes from the last lunar cycle — a roller coaster of inflated and dashed expectations. What is easy to miss is that there are valuable opportunities to learn important lessons from the surprises and new ideas coming out of the flurry of changes that we have experienced. Detachment and objectivity are hard to find but crucial to learning the lessons that are offered. The Sun-Neptune square does not actually complete until the end of the week when we may find that our optimistic expectations have evaporated. Alternatively, we may seek to escape into a fantasy dreamworld in order to feel some sense of control. Mercury stations to turn retrograde in Capricorn just after the New Moon — another 'fly in the ointment' of any inflated expectations. Mercury's station in Capricorn is likely to to encourage us to rely on the Belief in our plans and aspirations — even though we haven't actually implemented them yet. Under the retrograding Mercury, we are likely to discover new pieces of information, suggesting that our solid plans are subject to reconsideration. The more that we can focus on discovery and the Sagittarius desire for adventure, the less we will be troubled by the disappointment of inflated, unrealistic expectations. There is definitely more to learn, more investigation to be done, more 'pieces' that need to fall into place. The real challenge this week is that if our expectations are too firm, we may be blind to the significant opportunities to learn what we still need to know before actually making tangible progress.

There is excitement surrounding social engagement on Sunday. There is a sense of anticipation that may lead us to believe that we should be making more progress than we are making. Excitement and anticipation builds on Monday. There is a feeling of freedom and adventure that encourages us to try to 'break new ground'. We may be quite restless on Tuesday. The intellectual atmosphere may encourage us to try to lead others to believe that we know more than we actually do. Excitement is moderated and stabilized on Wednesday. We can begin to recognize that our 'solid' plans are subject to further review. There is a rather revolutionary quality in the atmosphere on Thursday. New ideas can quickly percolate to the surface but we may feel resistance if we are still holding on to the past. There is an urge to pull back or isolate on Friday. We have an opportunity to more quietly process some of the week's excitement. Saturday's haphazard, unstable atmosphere leads us to understand that we aren't quite 'in the groove' that we believed we were in. Some will find that their optimism has suddenly evaporated.
