Sun-Mars Square - Nervous Motivation

"There are two kinds of people: those who say to God, 'Thy will be done,' and those to whom God says, 'All right, then, have it your way.'"

— C. S. Lewis

This week is mainly dominated by a slow forming Sun-Mars square that will begin to increase the pressure as soon as the Sun arrives in Virgo on Monday evening. The effects of the square are especially challenging under the waning Moon, which does not give us the kind of traction that the energizing, chaotic square stirs. Uranus turns retrograde on Wednesday, joining Pluto, Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, and Chiron. The retrograding Uranus in Taurus increases our need to establish a new sense of security. Building self-esteem and a more stable sense of self-worth remains the driving impetus of the re-evaluation process that has been underway for the past few months. With Uranus joining the 'committee', our personal sense of security is also 'under (RE)construction'. A Virgo New Moon (1:16 AM PDT 4° Virgo) on Saturday will serve to help us sort through the chaos and uncertainty by adding a painstaking — but possibly perfectionist — approach to the re-evaluation process. The New Moon is quincunx Jupiter, potentially leading us to reach for an out-of-reach-ideal, rather than slowly assembling the elements necessary to begin to bring our vision into form. The New Moon brings a focus on building for the long term but the square to Mars suggests some reckless impulsiveness to manage as we begin to move forward. The challenge this week is moderation, staying with the process and not trying to accomplish more than is humanly possible. Responsibility and the pursuit of steady lines of growth will bring amazing results under the new lunar cycle. However, quieting our minds enough to see the opportunities clearly is a major hurdle to overcome. Intuitive guidance may be quite unreliable, especially with the extraordinary amount of noise surrounding us this week. Nonetheless, the Gemini Mars does offer incredibly sharp mental abilities and an increased sensitivity to what is actually going on around us. If we are able to set aside unrealistic idealism, ignore the foggy 'what ifs', and stay focused on what is directly in front of us, we will be able to begin to lay down some important 'cornerstones' to support our future growth.

We'll do better to stay focused on some mundane, routine tasks on Sunday. The Moon's arrival in Cancer in the evening suggests some emotional unsteadiness and we begin to feel the pressure building. A Mercury-Pluto trine on Monday encourages deep investigations. However, our intuition isn't very helpful. We have difficulty finding clues about where we are heading on Tuesday. There is more uncertainty and indecision than any sort of clear sense of direction. We feel some added determination to lock down some kind of protective structure on Wednesday. We want to hold things together at all costs. Cooperative effort to achieve common purposes is well supported on Thursday. However, with Mercury's arrival in Libra, we may tend to be too aloof and analytical to establish solid connections with others. Reckless impulsiveness threatens to 'stir the pot' on Friday. There is a significant amount of chaos and interpersonal 'drama' that is poured into Saturday's Virgo New Moon. Ambitions are high on Saturday but we may be inclined to stretch ourselves too thin. Patience to pursue steady lines of growth is needed.
