Virgo New Moon
Virgo New Moon — Humble Progress
"The road must be trod, but it will be very hard. And neither strength nor wisdom will carry us far upon it. This quest may be attempted by the weak with as much hope as the strong. Yet it is oft the course of deeds that move the wheels of the world: Small hands do them because they must, while the eyes of the great are elsewhere."
— J.R.R. Tolkien
The Jupiter-Saturn trine begins to wane this week but the connection continues to provide a remarkable level of productive balance. Jupiter and Saturn will make two more exact trines from Leo to Aries next year — April 3, 2027 and July 11, 2027 — which keeps the connection 'in play' for almost a year. This Thursday's Virgo New Moon (8:26 PM PDT 18° Virgo), in a sextile to Mars in Cancer, helps to soothe the tensions from last week's Mars-Saturn square and allows us to begin to integrate the more beneficial and productive energies flowing from Jupiter's trine to Saturn. The New Moon's sextile to Mars in Cancer shifts our focus from a defensive focus on 'boundaries' and 'who gets what' towards an incredibly beneficial and generous attention to nurturing and protection. We are offered a surge of nurturing, 'service-oriented' humility in line with what might be seen as the 'best' of Virgo's message. Nonetheless, there are several other important shifts that occurs at the New Moon — Venus arrives in Scorpio, Mercury arrives in Libra, and Uranus stations retrograde — that may certainly suggest that there a few 'flies in the ointment' that will need to be addressed as we begin the new lunar cycle. Venus is not particularly happy in Scorpio and the forming square to Pluto in Aquarius suggests a demanding intensity of emotions that aren't easily expressed. Mercury's rulership of the Virgo New Moon from Libra brings an inclination towards judgemental perfectionism, rather than broad acceptance. As well, Mercury will make some 'tricky' connections to 'the outers' at the end of this week and the beginning of next week. Mercury makes an opposition to Neptune and trine to Pluto on Saturday that leaves us somewhat vulnerable to significant confusion, distraction, or deception. We can easily be left struggling to maintain our humility and a methodical pace, tempted to rely instead on faulty information and overly optimistic assessments that don't actually fit the 'facts on the ground'. Also, Mercury's trine to the stationary Uranus at the beginning of next week will produce plenty of excitement and intellectual stimulation but offer little or no clear focus, suggesting — at best — too many ideas that are 'ahead of their time' that splinter our focus and challenge our ability to follow through on anything. Nonetheless, the inspiring injection of humility and generosity that is offered by this week's New Moon creates a growing sense of hope and offers important help to encourage us to stay grounded and 'on task'. This week's Virgo New Moon begins a 'process-driven' lunar cycle that will reward subtle, incremental, methodical progress.
We may also be prone to increased protectiveness on Sunday, with a strong desire to define and defend the boundaries that we see as necessary for our individual safety. Some may feel especially reclusive, intent on following through on some kind of personal initiative without external disruptions. Monday's energy helps us to get a handle on the broadly shifting landscape, offering us an impressive capacity to 'ride the waves of change' in an effective manner. The atmosphere is quite generous and productive. We're seeking some kind of approval or acknowledgement on Tuesday. Progress for the sake of progress seems meaningless if we don't gain accolades for our accomplishments — or so it seems. There is a sudden resurgence of highly intellectual activity and insight on Wednesday, leading us to discover new layers of humility. We gain an opportunity to close out some intensely ego-driven initiatives and begin to see a way to build productive, 'service oriented' connections to others. The environment shifts dramatically on Thursday. There is an inspiring injection of humility and generosity that is offered that is more than likely to produce a growing sense of hope. Our minds are stirred on Friday but it is difficult to 'connect the dots'. We need patience and a methodical attention to detail. We seem to find ourselves overly reliant on input from others on Saturday that may or may not provide us with a productive sense of direction. It is important to maintain a heightened awareness of any weakness or uncertainty and not allow ourselves to be goaded into unwise actions that seem to carry a false imperative.
