Mercury-Saturn Trine
Mercury-Saturn Trine - Expanded Perspectives
"The past, the present and the future are really one: they are today."
— Harriet Beecher Stowe
As we begin to unwind the challenging messages from last Friday's Capricorn Full Moon (6:07 PM PDT 1° Capricorn/Cancer), there is a subtle but important tension between a search for emotional security and some very powerful intellectual activity that is encouraging us to expand the perimeter of our comfort zone. We may seem to 'straddle the fence' between intellectual confidence and emotional uncertainty. Mercury's activity in Cancer plays a pivotal role in helping us to bridge the gap between emotion and intellect. A midweek Mercury-Saturn trine is followed up by a Mercury-Chiron square, which keeps our 'feet to the fire' in terms of expanding our perspective enough to appreciate the challenges of others and not just focus on our own concerns. Under this week's waning Moon, we're likely to be more inclined to simply observe rather than trying too hard to 'get in the mix' or make tangible headway. Ultimately, our approach is rather cautious and methodical. When we are able to 'let go' — even in small ways — our humility and empathy improves and our perspective is expanded and enhanced. The fact is that there are important communication lines open. Venus in Cancer makes a sextile to Mars in Taurus later in the week, encouraging us to maintain some humility and empathy. Saturn turns retrograde at the end of the week, potentially drawing our focus towards the past in ways that reflect our concerns about safety and security. There are, of course, important lessons to learn from reflecting on our past — but we need to avoid getting lost in regret, recrimination, and missed opportunities. What is perhaps most important this week is following through on expanding the perimeter of our comfort zone in order to better understand the perspectives of others. With Saturn turning retrograde, we have the chance to recognize that the most important lessons of our past will be reflected in the connections with others that we are making in the present. By embracing a broader set of perspectives right now, we are able to understand our past with deeper clarity and insight, finding both understanding and forgiveness. That insight and understanding will help us to see the opportunities that we have in this moment to create the future we would like.
We feel significant courage and confidence on Sunday, even possibly feeling ready for 'whatever may come'. This is quite a promising move towards transformation and rebirth. There is an optimistic and expansive tone set early in the day on Monday. However, we may find ourselves prone to overextending ourselves as the day goes on. The 'tables turn' on Tuesday and we begin to feel threats and challenges that hit a little too 'close to home'. Even so, any slowdown offers us a chance to 'get our ducks in a row'. There is some 'noise' in Wednesday's environment that pushes us to 'tune in' to a more empathetic approach. We are encouraged to more directly appreciate the challenges that others are facing — instead of just our own. Thursday's expanded perspective is increasingly comfortable but we may be tempted to take advantage of the smoother environment in reckless and self-centered ways. However, it is premature to try to make use of any expanded power that we feel. We are activated and possibly quite stirred up on Friday. However, most manage to maintain a steady, methodical pace that allows for significant, tangible progress. Although we may find ourselves beginning to focus on our past on Saturday, there are important clues to finding meaning in our past as it is reflected in our current connections with those around us. There are important opportunities beginning to develop if we can stay mainly focused on the present moment.
