Mars-Saturn Opposition - Dealing with Duality

"Live and learn from fools and from sages"
Dream On
— Steven Tyler

The building Mars-Saturn opposition dominates this week, producing strong polarization and demanding that we find some way to deal with duality. The Sun's entrance into Gemini — a sign associated with duality — stirs our minds, while the building Mars-Uranus sextile inspires a strong sense of independence. In the midst of this active but tension-driven week, Mercury emerges from it's retrograde shadow. Although Mercury, ruling both the Sun and Mars, is in deliberate and determined Taurus, it does not seem to have the strength needed to stabilize the heady desire for independent action in order to get a clear, reliable perspective. The pulsing polarization of the Mars-Saturn opposition keeps throwing down obstacles, questions and conflicting information, while the Taurean Mercury keeps us thinking about, well — wouldn't a nap would nice about now? In the midst of the high energy swirl of activity, we arrive at an airy and ethereal Gemini New Moon (May 25th 12:44 PM PDT 4° Gemini), offering at least some help to filter out distractions with keen insight and awareness. Nonetheless, the increasing swirl of activity, building energy and determined independence leave very little room for stabilization, compromise or cooperative effort. By the time we get to the end of this week, we may feel particularly frazzled and discouraged if we have taken the bait of distractions and one-sided perspectives. We need to hold tight to the principles of honesty and acceptance in order to deal with the plethora of opposing viewpoints and effectively navigate the chaotic series of obstacles that are likely to show up this week.

Heightened intellect is employed on Sunday to try and bridge the building gap between opposing perspectives. However, we don't seem to get much beyond a 'split-screen' view and clarity seems to be lacking. We find emotional distractions to contend with on Monday, scattering any effort to find clarity or compromise. It may be easy to become over-optimistic on Tuesday as the atmosphere seems to become more cooperative. However, the mood is tenuous at best and there are hidden vulnerabilities to contend with when any critical thoughts are voiced. We get a chance to take a break on Wednesday under a VOC Moon in Taurus. There is more emphasis on reflection, rather than blind or uninformed action. Thursday's New Moon (12:44 PM PDT 4° Gemini) sharpens our insight and awareness and offers some much needed stamina to filter through the morass of conflicting information. It could be difficult to avoid becoming over-amped and overwhelmed on Friday. The strong focus on social activity may wind up being more superficial than substantial if we succumb to the urge to be hasty or reckless in our associations. Our circle of friends is especially important on Saturday. We could be facing despondency and disappointment if we have let over-optimism or unrealistic expectations get the best of us.
