Mars-Saturn Conjunction — Slowing Initiatives

"People always say that I didn't give up my seat because I was tired, but that isn't true. I was not tired physically… No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in."

— Rosa Parks

As we move into a new lunar cycle this week, following last Friday's Aries New Moon (4:51 AM PDT 27° Aries), perhaps the biggest challenge that we face is impatience. Our individual integrity is being tested as we try move forward without becoming sidetracked. The Aries energy, led by Mars, is stirring an intense desire to take action. However, Mars makes a conjunction with Saturn at the beginning of the week which, although Mars is still holding the 'upper hand', slows down all of our initiatives. Mars has already been slowed by last week's Mars-Neptune conjunction. This week's Mars-Saturn conjunction further stalls the initiatory drive of Mars. Mercury joins Mars and Saturn on Monday. Mercury actually emerges from the interaction with Mars and Saturn 'in the lead'. Mars emboldens Mercury, encouraging sharp tongues and strong demonstrations of independence. Nonetheless, the Sun's entrance into Taurus at the beginning of the week, ruled by Venus, already in Taurus, suggests a growing interest in avoiding conflict. But the Sun's exit from Aries and move into Taurus also seems to 'lighten the load' of rulership that Mars has been carrying — perhaps indicating a 'weary warrior' that is becoming 'sadder but wiser'. Even as we reach the activating 1st quarter phase of the lunar cycle on Thursday, we find ourselves slowed and challenged by uncertainty and doubt. The 1st quarter Moon's opposition to Pluto does produce a growing awareness of new opportunities to pursue initiatives — but these initiatives are developing a decidedly more intellectual flavor. There is broad and growing demand for independence, fed by innovative new ideas and driven by individual voices. Venus makes an important conjunction with Uranus on Thursday evening at the last degree of Taurus. This echoes a previous Venus-Uranus conjunction at the last degree of Taurus that occurred last year (July 4th, 2025). Venus will arrive in Gemini right after conjuncting Uranus, ahead of the ingress of Uranus into Gemini on Friday. This is the same sequence — Venus 'paving the way' for the ingress of Uranus into Gemini — that happened last year. The echoes that we see and hear this week are bringing forward a new sense of purpose and progress that was elusive in last year's sequence. In essence, we begin to move toward a new sense of intellectual independence that allows the energy of Mars to 'pivot' away from conflict in order to facilitate the growth of new intellectual initiatives. Finally, we cannot forget the importance of Chiron at the last Aries New Moon. We are still being offered the important 'healing insights' of Chiron in Aries, which continues to try to remind us that we are all connected. Connection, cooperation, and compromise without abandoning individual integrity is something like 'threading a needle' in this week's impatient environment but exactly what we are being asked to do.

We're likely to try to stand our ground on Sunday — right or wrong — in order to display our independence. Our individual integrity is being tested as we try move forward without becoming sidetracked. Monday offers a clarifying intellectual framework to better understand whatever challenges and restrictions that we have been experiencing. Impatience grows on Monday and we need to be prepared to 'dig in', persevere, and do whatever that we can do to follow through on the new intellectual framework that is developing. There is significant mental strain to contend with on Tuesday. The push to act is likely to lead us further than we are wise to go. The challenge of navigating Wednesday's highly erratic and unpredictable environment involves finding balance in the midst of crisis and uncertainty. Finding balance is especially difficult. We are beginning to find extraordinary power in our individual, independent voices through Thursday's shifts. The exchange of new, innovative ideas is nearly unstoppable in the developing environment. Overall, there seems to be more recklessness in the way we express Friday's insights — whether they are right or wrong — and we will need to fully engage with the details before can really begin to understand the ramifications of what is expressed with such 'fervor'. There seems to be some significant defensiveness surfacing on Saturday when we have difficulty getting clear information or further clarifying the information that has already been presented. Ultimately, it is will-power that is stifled and challenged.
