Taurus New Moon

Taurus New Moon - Grounded Initiative

"A man is worked upon by what he works on. He may carve out his circumstances, but his circumstances will carve him out as well."

— Frederick Douglass

There are a number of important shifts that get underway this week, beginning with the entrance of Venus into Gemini, which occurred just before the week began. Venus in Gemini rules Tuesday's Taurus New Moon (11:59 AM PDT 21° Taurus), instilling a sense of excitement that is enhanced by the sextile of Mars to Uranus. Although this week's overall atmosphere is highly intellectual and visionary, our ideas and insights are unlikely to push us too far towards erratic or ungrounded aspirations and ambitions. Mercury's trine to Saturn helps us keep the Taurus New Moon well grounded by common sense. What ever success we had last week in bolstering our self-esteem will serve us extremely well this week. Concerns over approval seem to fall away. The intellectual atmosphere is full of new ideas, new vision, and new strategies that include elements of flexibility that allow for future growth. Most notable this week is Jupiter's first entrance into Pisces, where it will remain until July 28th. In some respects, this is a preview of further expansion and progress next year. However, this preview offers important lessons in understanding how to maintain our principles — our moral compass — while still remaining adaptable to changing circumstances. We are challenged to deepen our connections and attach our intellectual curiosity to a grounding set of principles. Often, in our pursuit of expansive new initiatives, we lose touch with the past, with tradition, as well as deeper, abiding truths. Eventually, we must find our way back to these elements or risk losing the entire thread of our intellectual vision. By the end of the week, Mercury enters the shadow of the next retrograde period (May 29th - June 22nd) and approaches the first of three squares to Neptune. In connection with the presence of Jupiter in Pisces, the upcoming retrograde Mercury retrograde period will challenge us to clarify our insights and connect our vision to broad principles. The first Neptune-Mercury square (May 22nd) will find Pallas conjunct Neptune, which helps us to clarify our vision. What we most need to look for this week is how the excitement we feel can help us to deepen our connections with others and also stay connected with our past while we begin to create the structures that will best serve our future.

Optimism grows on Sunday after a bumpy morning. The waning Moon does not give us many clues about the coming shifts. Monday's Taurus Moon, which conjuncts Uranus and sextiles Mars, stirs intellectual excitement. Tuesday's Taurus New Moon is full of excitement and intellectual initiative and growing power. There is some sense that change is coming and we are especially animated by the boost in energy. The Mercury-Saturn trine on Wednesday helps to ground the excitement coming out of the Taurus New Moon. We'll do better to focus on our sense of mission than to become frustrated by any errant 'naysayers'. Jupiter 'dips' into Pisces on Thursday in an especially powerful environment that helps us to find ways to merge conflicting beliefs into common purposes and shared vision. By Friday, we begin to sense the need for more depth in our intellectual initiatives. There is something like a 'gut check' to remind us that we need to stay true to our basic principles. By Saturday, we further realize that our thinking must mature and our ideas must show broader relevance than simple cleverness.
