Mercury-Jupiter Square- Out-of-the-Box Ideas

"I did not imitate the skeptics who doubt only for doubting's sake, and pretend to be always undecided; on the contrary, my whole intention was to arrive at a certainty, and to dig away the drift and the sand until I reached the rock or the clay beneath."

—Rene Descartes

Last week's Virgo New Moon Solar Eclipse (September 21st, 12:53 PM PDT 29° Virgo) suggested a particularly intense 'dark of the moon' period. But quickly, the Autumnal Equinox — the Sun's arrival in Libra — began to suggest significant breakthroughs. The Libra Sun's connections to Uranus, Pluto and Neptune in a potent 'kite' formation offered remarkable revelations. Even though we could begin to see potential breakthroughs, Libra's indecision was also highlighted, producing a confounding sense of uncertainty. As we reach the 1st quarter phase of the current lunar cycle this week, we might hope to find at least a tentative sense of purpose and control beginning to coalesce as the Moon's 'light' waxes. However, finding the structure that we need in order to truly follow through on our 'breakthrough' ideas and intentions continues to be elusive. This week's progress feels quite unsteady — 'shifting sands' and few tangible results — and offers no clear view of where we are actually heading. One of the only major planetary aspects that we see this week is a Mercury-Jupiter square, from Libra to Cancer. That square does keep our minds active with plenty of new, 'off-the-wall' ideas but also suggests that the self-discipline needed for follow-through may be lacking. Although gaining traction may seem daunting, there is a powerful, 'instinctive', and 'intuitive' creative process forming this week. Venus crosses the lunar South Node near the end of the week, suggesting that we're somewhat prone to trusting the wrong people in our attempts to put our agendas forward. But the Venus-South Node conjunction also offers important creative insight that can help us to clarify our true desires and intentions. Nonetheless, we will need to be cautious about putting our developing ideas in the hands of untrustworthy allies. As we approach next Monday's Aries Full Moon (8:47 PM PDT 14° Aries/Libra), we are more and more intent on finding an independent path forward. Compromise is, at best, an afterthought in our over-arching strategy. But the forming creative process improves our visionary ability, offering some indication that our intentions and the unconscious development of images (of success or achievement) that we are sorting through can begin to firm up as we move through this week. It is important to note that there will be one more activation of the potent 'kite' formation before the current lunar cycle completes. Venus will reach Libra on October 13th and complete the Grand Air Trine with Uranus and (stationary) Pluto on the 14th — while also opposing Neptune. In other words, we should not lose our faith that the breakthroughs are over. But rather, as the 'sands' shift and swirl this week, we will need to stay connected to the powerful, intuitive, instinctive creative process that is unfolding and stay open to further revelations. In essence, "don't give up five minutes before the miracle".

Idealism is stirred up on Sunday but we may be easily side-tracked or distracted. Not all of the opportunities that are presented are truly worthy of our attention. Instinct and intuition help us to begin to develop a new sense of purpose and direction on Monday. We may be easily tripped up by perfectionism in pursuit of an idealistic vision that isn't attainable. We're prone to spending a great deal of energy on our independent pursuits on Tuesday — some may find themselves actually ignoring the rules entirely in order to cut a new path. Trial and error may be the only way to find our way through the environment — some succeed, others fail. There are any number of 'off the wall' ideas floating around in Wednesday's atmosphere. There is actually significant potential for some surprising breakthroughs in those ideas. We are more and more intent on finding an independent path forward on Thursday. Compromise is, at best, an afterthought in our over-arching strategy. There is a powerful but delicate creative sensitivity in Friday's activity. While we may not feel as though we have much traction, there is a remarkably creative process underway that has yet to be fully revealed or understood. Challenges abound on Saturday as we struggle to maintain independence, avoid restrictions, but also gain approval from others. Much of the disruption comes from internal self-doubts and a waning sense of self-worth.
