Spring Equinox

Spring Equinox — Growing Power

"The smallest sprout shows there is really no death,
And if ever there was it led forward life, and does not wait at the
end to arrest it,
And ceas'd the moment life appear'd."

— Walt Whitman
Song of Myself

With this Friday's Spring Equinox — the Sun's arrival in Aries — the scales tip toward the Aries side of the Pisces/Aries cusp. By the end of the week, the initiative of Aries is stirred as it draws on the inspired (or potentially delusional) vision of Pisces. We gain a vision of unexplored territory — new horizons and new opportunities — and we become more and more aware of the vast, undeveloped potential that is laid out before us. We will begin to gain traction in the coming weeks and even see some of our goals fall into place spontaneously. Ahead of the Spring Equinox, we arrive at a Pisces New Moon (6:11 PM PDT 28° Pisces) on Wednesday, suggesting a series of endings followed up with new beginnings. The New Moon provides 'water" to nurture the new growth and direction initiated under last month's Saturn-Neptune conjunction — and perhaps even help to stabilize what was 'shaken up' by the Mars-Uranus square which followed close on the heels of the Saturn-Neptune conjunction. We are offered important opportunities to allow the emotional baggage of the past to be washed away by the 'receding waters' of Pisces. A Pisces Moon conjuncts Mercury, Mars, and the North Node and goes on to trine Jupiter, ahead of the New Moon, stirring up a 'frothy' idealism that could quickly develop into rebellious, uncooperative recklessness. The Sun and Moon complete sextiles to Uranus, from Pisces to Taurus, right before the New Moon, further intensifying the rebelliousness and seeding an intense desire for freedom as well as the release from past restrictions. The ingress into Aries by both the Sun and Moon (as well as the later ingress of Mars and Mercury) must proceed though the daunting gauntlet of conjunctions with both Neptune and Saturn. Essentially, our initiatives will be 'dissolved' (Neptune) and then 'reconstituted' (Saturn) before we can finally take definitive action. What we do find here is fertile ground for making plans, as well as important opportunities to identify any weaknesses in those plans. It is a time for organizing our thoughts, identifying our strengths and weakness, and seeking the cooperation of potential new allies. The Moon quickly moves into Aries after the New Moon and crosses the 'gauntlet' set by Neptune and Saturn at the beginning of Aries, setting the stage for the Sun's arrival in Aries to mark the Spring Equinox on Friday. The Spring Equinox coincides with Mercury's direct station conjunct the Pisces North Node. Mercury's retrograde path has provided an important opportunity to reflect on where we are and how we got here. The retrograde Mercury, which ruled the Virgo Full Moon Eclipse (3:37 AM PST 12° Virgo/Pisces) back on March 3rd, provided support for additional investigation to compliment the process of reflection. Mercury's conjunction with Mars at the beginning of this week opened a significant new round of dialog to explore our investigations but, in Pisces, is ultimately rather circumspect and restrained. However, Mercury will reconnect with Mars in Aries by the middle of April as they work their way through the Saturn-Neptune 'gauntlet'. In that context, the budding awareness, as fostered by the process of reflection and investigation, that is only being 'whispered' — and potentially incorporated into our planning — this week will sharpen and intensify, finding a decisive, persistent and 'full throated' voice by the middle of next month.

Even though it will still take some time for the Piscean 'fog' to clear away, we can recognize some intriguing and important new threads of thinking to pursue on Sunday. However, we are only on the 'precipice' of the shift towards definitive action. Monday provides us with important opportunities to allow the emotional baggage of the past to be washed away. There is potential for both frustration and new initiatives to surface. We are likely stirred up with a rather 'frothy' idealism on Tuesday that can quickly turn to rebellious, uncooperative recklessness. What is called for is the 'light hand' of detached transcendence. We find fertile ground for making plans on Wednesday, as well as important opportunities to identify any weaknesses in those plans. It is a time for organizing our thoughts, identifying our strengths and weakness, and seeking the cooperation of potential new allies. Deep reflection is extremely well supported on Thursday. However, we will still struggle to find our footing and experience a dip in our overall confidence. We find a vision of unexplored territory — new horizons and new opportunities on Friday. While there may be a great deal of confusion, we find ourselves more and more aware of the vast, undeveloped potential that is laid out before us. There is a stirring of an extraordinary level of energy and optimism on Saturday. However, it is not an easy environment to manage effectively and could certainly spin out of our control quite quickly.
