Taurus New Moon

Taurus New Moon - Intense Determination

"In times of crisis, we must all decide again and again whom we love."

— Frank O'Hara

The powerful growing power of last Saturday's Taurus New Moon (1:27 PM PDT 10° Taurus) propels us forward with heightened ambitions and intense determination this week. Venus, ruling Taurus, arrives in Aries on Monday and we feel more than ready to 'get this show on the road.' However, our understanding of the subtleties and implications may be lacking. The Sun approaches a conjunction with Uranus that completes just after midnight on Thursday morning in a tight sextile to Mars, offering high energy but also unexpected developments and some erratic behavior. Flexibility is extremely important but there are strong inclinations to pursue a reckless, headstrong, independent path. We will do better to proceed through the week with a sense of discovery — not expectations — and avoid becoming too intent on specific outcomes. Exploration can lead to innovation but we have to stay flexible and be willing to 'roll with the punches.' Shifting ground is not something that the Taurus Sun is comfortable with and the position of Venus in Aries is also rather uncomfortable. While this week may feel like a very bumpy ride, by Friday we can begin to see intellect, instinct, and intuition merge in a very promising way. By the end of the week, as we approach the 1st quarter lunar phase, many of us will begin to see how to integrate the perspectives of others without abandoning our own needs and perspectives. In the background of this week's twists and turns is the slowing of Mercury, which will turn retrograde next Tuesday (May 10th). Mercury arrived in it's home sign of Gemini last week and offers intellectual help in understanding the need for flexibility and new information. Many of this week's developments will be subject to review over the next few weeks and we can actually take comfort that there will be time to adjust and adapt to the shifts that we have to contend with this week, once Mercury turns retrograde. Our focus will shift towards establishing a new sense of security when Mercury moves back into Taurus by May 22nd. By the end of May, Venus will be in her home sign of Taurus and we are likely to find that we have arrived at a new sense of comfort that we can only dream of this week. Have faith: "This too, shall pass".

The growing power of the Taurus New Moon may feel quite intoxicating on Sunday. Any complications will produce discontent or impatience. Impatience increases on Monday and we're ready to 'get this show on the road' but our ambitions may be rather unfocused or reckless. We should begin to prepare for a 'bumpy ride'. Energy and enthusiasm is high on Tuesday. However, things may spiral quickly out of control. The strong intellectual capacity on Wednesday may lead us to get a bit ahead of ourselves. We need to stay flexible. There is some danger of falling prey to emotional blind spots and 'sob stories' on Thursday. We'll do better to approach the challenges with a sense of discovery. There are lucky breaks and unexpected rewards to gather on Friday. The advances may feel very good but we should remember that there is a review coming soon. We finally seem to gain the ability to blend the intellectual, instinctual, and emotional elements into a coherent plan of action on Saturday. There is a strong sense of responsibility.
