Mercury Retrograde - September Clean Up

The Mercury Retrograde period begins this week in an amazingly energetic and active environment. Thursday's New Moon in Virgo (2:03 AM PDT 9° Virgo) squares Saturn and opposes Neptune, setting off another significant round of 'Mutable Mayhem' during which shifts happen quickly. Much of the activity may seem chaotic and out-of-control but, as we see new patterns emerge, it may not seem that bad after all. We aren't likely to see much of the usual drop in energy or personal initiative that accompanies a stationing Mercury since the mutable squares keep activity bustling. As Mercury changes direction, our focus shifts sharply towards things in our lives that aren't working the way they should. The retrograde period brings a strong imperative to clean up unnecessary debris and baggage that is getting in our way. We are also likely to see many unworkable elements simply fall by the wayside on their own, like leaves falling from trees in autumn. Jupiter is near Mercury as it stations, producing a generous and optimistic atmosphere. Nonetheless, we'll need to keep an eye on perfectionism and wildly over-optimistic expectations. Once Jupiter moves on into Libra on September 9th, the generous optimism will fade a bit but so will most of the perfectionist tendencies. However, Mercury will continue to keep our focus on clean up until it stations direct in a transformative trine to Pluto on September 21st. Sunday's Cancer Moon has us looking for calm stability but, if we pay close attention, there are opportunities to make extra preparations for this week's shift in focus. Venus arrives in Libra on Monday, helping to reduce levels of skepticism and improve our ability to build cooperative alliances. Mercury changes directions on Tuesday in a highly independent and active atmosphere that promises long lasting effects. The Moon arrives in Virgo on Wednesday, ahead of Thursday's early morning New Moon. The discriminating ability of Virgo is on full display as our focus shifts to a profound clean up of outworn ideas and unworkable goals. We set out on a destiny course under Thursday's New Moon and begin a mission to clear away old baggage and debris. Friday's dip in confidence may have us a bit too reliant of the approval of others. However, personal initiative returns on Saturday, improved by a more receptive attitude to the input and suggestions of others.
