Sagittarius

SAGITTARIUS (November 23 - December 22) is the natural 9th house. It is associated with long distance travel, higher education, philosophy and the understanding of the factual knowledge acquired from the third house and Gemini. Sagittarians are a very learned group but it is not considered a mental sign. They are more philosophical and contemplative. They love travel because of the broadening effect. It is far easier for a Sagittarian to make new friends than to keep the old ones.

Coming under the rulership of Jupiter, the great benefic, they are very optimistic gamblers. And they usually win. When they lose, they are philosophical about it; “tomorrow is another day.” They are rarely depressed, vindictive or held back in any way by the past. Their open and frank honesty is both a handicap and an asset. They have nothing to hide and couldn't successfully hide it if they did. However, they do a beautiful job of camouflage.

It is a mutable fire sign. As such, it represents one of the vital life points of the fire trine, granting enthusiasm, leadership qualities and plenty of self-confidence. They like to add zest to the stories they tell by exaggeration just to round out the details. Being a fire sign, they also take risks and like athletics. They even consider love a sport while adhering to a double standard as far as their spouse is concerned. Nevertheless, Sagittarius, being the last of the fire elements and associated with spirit, is possessed of a driving growing force. When spirit commands, the gods listen. Often the Sagittarius travels a great distance before he finds that "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow; but he never stops hoping and looking.

As Scorpio represents the power of the spirit and the resources of the partnership, Sagittarius represents the communication and use of power. From Scorpio come the resources, which Sagittarius organizes into philosophical meanings. Sagittarius is not a creative sign. It works as an organizer and interpreter of what has been created by others. It is interested in organizing humanity. Sagittarius rules the thighs of the body which permit movement. It seeks to put meaning into all that is to be found within the broad or narrow boundaries established by Saturn. Therefore, it is associated with long distance travel. Sagittarius expands within Saturn's boundaries not beyond them, and seeks to create wealth within established boundaries. It is not as much concerned with quality as with quantity and operates on a principle of growth. It may stretch these boundaries to the breaking point but it is limited to what is within. It is generous and inflated in its giving. Opposite Gemini's "I" mentality, Sagittarius is associated with the "we" mentality of the group. Sagittarius develops laws from Libra's scales, and describes and attaches meaning.

Sagittarius represents the abundance of the fall season. This sign is considered the luckiest sign of the Zodiac. Sagittarius arrives after the harvest when the storehouse is full and supplied for the winter. There is an awareness there will be famine before the new crop arrives if the supplies do not last. This awareness of abundance and the control of supply is stimulated according to the position Sagittarius holds in the chart and the planets found there.
